Are you referring to the area off of North University Ave. ? That area was named the Buddy Holly Recreation Area (as opposedto BH Park) -- and for years was marked only with a wooden sign. My understand is that the city stopped replacing the sign because each one was stolen.

I'm not certain why it was/is not advertised; perhaps some within the city are not even aware the area has a name. Indeed, the story I was told indiates that the name was rushed into existence about the time "The Buddy Holly Story" movie was released; people with the film asked where they could meet that had been named after Holly, and city fathers realized there was nothing in all of Lubbock. Presto: the Buddy Holly Recreation Area way out on North University. It would become the site of the famous Tornado Jams.

I really want some one to answer why, We never refer To the Park as Buddy Holly park anymore , I was really excitied when
My Husband & I purchased the house that faces Buddy Holly park in 2005, when I moved back to Texas in 1978< I was glad to be back in the Buddy Holly town and we frequented the Buddy Holly park and have acyually been to several outside concerts there in his rememberence...I also helped teach ywca camp where we would take the kids from the ywca everyday over to park for the summer for canoeing & activities in the summer of 1989, however I do not ever hear of anything more regarding Buddy Hollow park in fact I see now the name of the street has changed as well. I realize we do not have control of this, just always wondered what happened to the joy of Buddy Hollow park?
