That area was named the Buddy Holly Recreation Area (as opposedto BH Park) -- and for years was marked only with a wooden sign. My understand is that the city stopped replacing the sign because each one was stolen. I'm not certain why it was/is not advertised; perhaps some within the city are not even aware the area has a name. Indeed, the story I was told indiates that the name was rushed into existence about the time "The Buddy Holly Story" movie was released; people with the film asked where they could meet that had been named after Holly, and city fathers realized there was nothing in all of Lubbock. I realize we do not have control of this, just always wondered what happened to the joy of Buddy Hollow park?
